Background & Experience

Octagon Petroleum Technology Sdn Bhd (OPT) was incorporated on 6th October 2005 with a vision to be the global player and leader training provider for the petrochemical, oil and gas industry.

October 20, 2005, Octagon Petroleum Technology closely liaise with National Vocational Training Council (NVTC) to develop Petrochemical, Oil and Gas industry National Occupational Core Curriculum (NOCC) for National Dual Training System (NDTS).

November 2005, More than 75 industry experts from OPT participated in NOCC Development workshops organized by NVTC or MLVK. Complete Engineering Design NOCC Proposal successfully submitted to MLVK. In addition, OPT also proposed National Occupational Skill Standard (NOSS) for Oil and gas industry to compliment existing level 1 and 2 NOSS.

December 2005, OPT expert participated in Task Analysis level 1, 2 and 3 Organized by MLVK.

29th December 2005, UTM has appointed Octagon Petroleum Technology as BATC training provider for Plant technology Executive Diploma program which covering mechanical, piping & plant layout, instrumentation & control , process, electrical and offshore structure.

January 2006, the first Executive-Diploma in Plant Technology class was held at Kuala Lumpur . Later, Kuantan and Kerteh was held on April and May respectively. Current total enrolment up till August 2006 is 91 students.

April 2006, OPT Managing Director is appointed to be in the MLVK Advisory Committee for oil and gas industry.

May 2006, Octagon Petroleum Technology was invited to be the technology provider for Kolej Kemahiran Tinggi MARA (KKTM), both at Kemaman and Bintulu. Liaise with KKTM contractor to ensure overall KKTM Layout is meeting OPT requirements. Completed commercial and technical proposal and implementation schedule up to 2010 were submitted.

July 2006, Preliminary discussion and agreement at  Chemical Engineering Faculty, UKM level regarding collaboration between UKM and OPT for Master of science and Master of Engineering program in plant engineering.  July 31, 2006, OPT issued letter of intent to collaborate with UKM in Plant engineering education and industry research program related to Processing Plant and Petroleum Facilities.

August 2006, invited to become  MARA technical entrepreneur consultant for Oil and gas industry. Application successfully submitted.

February 2007, developed curriculum “Piping Engineering for Processing Plant” for Universiti Tun Hussein Onn (UTHM) under Industry Skill  Enhancement Program (INSEP)

May 2007, appointed by Jabatan Pembangunan Kemahiran (JPK) to develop  the National Occupational Core Curriculum (NOCC) for petrochemical, oil and gas sector as a base for training and evaluation in National Dual Training System (NDTS).

June 2007, developed technical competency standard and developed continuous training program in all skills and professions for Engineering and Construction Department of Malaysian Marine Heavy Engineering (MMHE). MMHE is a subsidiary of PETRONAS and the largest fabricator company in Malaysia which has experience in constructing deepwater facilities.

July 2007, developed and conducted Certificate Program in oil and gas engineering for SPM leavers.

November 2007, CEPP-UTM has appointed Octagon Petroleum Technology as training provider for Petroleum Facilities Engineering. Program designed for Oil Operators and project management team for consultants and contractors.

Feb. 2008, all the Certificate program graduates were hired by Tanjung Offshore Berhad as staffs and registered under SLDN program.

March 2008, Octagon Petroleum Technology was shortlisted to be the technology provider for Kolej Kemahiran Tinggi MARA (KKTM), both at Kemaman and Bintulu. Completed tender document and final technical presentation.

April 2008, Octagon Petroleum Technology initiate preliminary discussion with PetroCompletion Corp, UK for oilfield completion technology training.

April 2008, Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) awarded Octagon Petroleum Technology as Technology Provider for KKTM Kemaman for Diploma program in Processing Plant Engineering.

Sept. 2008, Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) awarded Octagon Petroleum Technology as Technology Provider for IKM Bintulu for Certificate program in Fabrication Engineering.

Dec, 2008, Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) awarded Octagon Petroleum Technology as Training Provider for KKTM Kemaman. The first batch for training officer class was held at Octagon Skill Training Center, Kajang.

Jan, 2009, The certificate program students in Piping Engineering will have to undergo practical training in engineering consultantcy for 3 month. In order to graduate successfully.

Jan, 2009, Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) invited Octagon Petroleum Technology to be part of the Malaysian business delegation during the Official Visit of The Prime Minister of Malaysia,The Right Honourable Dato' Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badwai, To the kindgom of Bahrain and the State of Qatar.
